An offset umbrella base needs to be very stable and strong to support the off-center weight and wind load of an offset market umbrella. Having a substantial footprint in combination with substantial weight leads to a stable base. Below is an example of such an offset stand. Clicking on the image will take you to amazon where the item can be purchased.

Sometimes one prefers the style of a more standard market umbrella base. These sort of bases can sometimes be used as an offset umbrella base if selected carefully for weight and stability, and depending on the size and weight of the offset umbrella itself.

It also makes the umbrella look very compact and neat. Some examples of replacement umbrella covers which can be easily ordered online include the following:

When selecting patio umbrella parts such as replacement umbrella covers, quality and appearance are two factors worth considering. Often a matching cover comes with a new patio umbrella, but it is always worth checking the item details to make sure.

Typical patio umbrellas are 9 feet in diameter. Anything smaller than that can be considered to be a small market umbrella. 6 foot is a typical size for smaller umbrellas, such as the following items.

4.5, 6.5, 7, 7.5, and 8 foot models can also be found. Perhaps surprisingly, 9 foot models are sometimes cheaper than the smaller models, probably because the larger umbrellas are more common.

Hope this helps you in your search for a small market umbrella.

I spend a lot of time on the sidelines watching my kids play soccer, baseball, you name it. And for the longest time I was looking for a good and easy source of shade for those days when it’s very sunny and hot. I already had a beach umbrella and a market umbrella, but wasn’t able to get them into the hard turf. I was so happy when I found the in ground umbrella stand shown below. These things work great.

Made of heavy steel, they are easy to push into the grass, and hold well. Then just slide your umbrella rod into the in ground umbrella stand, and now you have shade. It then becomes much easer to read, use your iphone, etc…

Then after the game, simple remove the umbrella from the stand, and then pull the stand out of the turf; it comes out pretty easily. And because the spikes that go into the turf aren’t that thick, it doesn’t leave a large hole in the field. In fact, it’s probably helps the grass by providing a bit of aeration.

Anyway, I’ve had great luck with these stands and hope you will too.

Patio umbrella parts such as these type of inground stands tend to work best with smaller to medium sized shade umbrellas. They might not be a good choice for a monster 11 ft market umbrella, both due to the pole diameter of very large market umbrella perhaps being too wide, and the high wind load large umbrellas place on their stand. As mentioned above, at events such as soccer games having an in ground umbrella stand can be very useful.

When looking for a replacement canopy for umbrellas, most important is to check that the new canopy will fit your current umbrella. Confirm that the number of rib pockets in the replacement canopy matches the number of ribs on your umbrella. And the size (e.g. 9 foot, 11 ft, etc…) is also critical.

Some replacement patio umbrella canopies can be found at these links below at a reasonable price and with a lot of positive reviews:

9ft Market Umbrella Canopy 8 Ribs Taupe (Canopy Only)

9ft Replacement Canopy 8 ribs in Hunter Green (Canopy only)

Of all the patio umbrella parts, a replacement market umbrella canopy is probably the one most often replaced. This is in part because the canopy is directly exposed to the sun and precipitation.

Umbrella canopy replacements can sometimes cost more that just getting a whole new umbrella, especially if shipping is free. So it could be better just to reuse the current base / stand you have, and get a whole new umbrella assembly all in one.

The “shade” portion of the umbrella is also known as the canopy. Below are several examples of replacement umbrella shades for umbrellas with 8 ribs.

Here are replacement umbrella shades for umbrellas with 6 ribs. Be sure to check the diameter of your umbrella (e.g. 9 foot, 11 foot wide, etc…) since that is also a critical measurement when choosing a replacement canopy in addition to the number of ribs.

A patio umbrella pulley is a typical component of wood market umbrellas, and an important patio umbrella part. The rope goes around the pulleys, allowing the canopy to be easily opened by pulling down on the rope. This is easire than lifting the umbrella by hand, but with smaller patio umbrellas the hand method works fine too.

Most umbrellas count a pulley among their patio umbrella parts. When a pulley breaks, it is typically not easy to find the exact design or style of pulley online. Perhaps because umbrella pulleys don’t often break.

One option is to remove the pulley and find a close approximation to it at your local hardware store or online such as the examples shown below. Though finding a size, color, and material match for a wood pulley might not be easy. Something just close might have to due.

The pole is a critical patio umbrella part as it holds the entire canopy up. It is most often made of wood, but metal is also fairly common. A pole should be long enough to hold the canopy well above people’s heads when they are standing. And it needs to be strong enough to withstand the substantial wind load placed upon the canopy. Finding a replacement umbrella pole can be difficult as the pole most often comes with the entire umbrella assembly. For an exact replacement often the only source is the manufacturer, or finding another one of the exact same umbrella type, perhaps at a garage sale.

Repairing important patio umbrella parts such as the pole is possible, but not recommended since the repair can degrade the umbrellas appearance and structural integrity. If the pole has snapped, it may be possible to slide on a larger diameter strong pipe section to cover and support the broken part of the pole. Then affix the repair in place with epoxy and/or screws. The repair would then need to be painted to match the rest of the pole. Unless the fit was perfect or lots of epoxy used, the pole may wobble somewhat. Strong two bolt long clamps (or one bolt types) such as those shown below are another possibility for a temporary pole repair until a new umbrella can be purchased, but again, are not recommended for this application.

So instead of repairing, getting a new market umbrella such as those listed on the other pages of this site or below is a much better option. Many of these may include free shipping and in recent years market umbrella prices have become quite reasonable on many of the styles.

Of all the patio umbrella parts, the stand is one of the most critical parts of a market umbrella, as it holds the umbrella upright. It needs to do so despite a possibly significant wind load on the umbrella. Outdoor umbrella stands are often made of metal (typically cast iron). However, there are also plastic ones which are then filled with water or sand.

Not surprisingly, the wider and heavier the base stand is, the more stable the umbrella will be. Larger patio umbrellas need larger bases to be stable. An example of an outdoor umbrella stand is shown below.

I generally prefer the metal type outdoor umbrella stands. These can last a long time and tend to look very nice as compared to water filled ones which sometimes lack the intricate detail present in the metal variety.
